New York Attorney General Lanny Breuer Grants Immunity To Bankers

While NY prosecutors are busy jailing the poor, who are sent away a year for stealing a bottle of water, he has granted a free pass to bank executives for their crimes of fraud, theft, aiding in murder, money laundering, aiding the enemy, drug dealing, and other nefarious acts which they benefited with over $4 billion in profits.

During the Christmas holiday the Attorney Generals office issued a statement, hoping you were all to busy to care, that HSBC executives would not be prosecuted for their crimes but will settle for a small (5 days of profits) fine instead.

“Had the U.S. authorities decided to press criminal charges,” said Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer at a press conference to announce the settlement, “HSBC would almost certainly have lost its banking license in the U.S., the future of the institution would have been under threat and the entire banking system would have been destabilized.”

This gives the bankers their own set of rules and laws, different from “the people” and continues the precedent that banks and their executives can do whatever they want and the government they fund will just roll over and take it where the sun does not shine.

If this was not enough, a week later the same Attorney General, Lanny Breuer was back giving Swiss bank UBS an even better deal for the LIBOR interest rate rigging conspiracy, which involved hundreds of TRILLIONS of dollars with a fine of less than 1% of the profits on the scam. When asked why no criminal charges were filed for the fraud, corruption and price rigging Breuer claimed; “Our goal here is not to destroy a major financial institution.”

A reporter at the UBS press conference pointed out to Breuer that UBS had already been busted in 2009 in a major tax-evasion case, and asked, “This is a bank that has broken the law before,” the reporter said. “So why not be tougher?”

“I don’t know what tougher means,” answered the assistant attorney general.

We are no longer living in a nation based on freedom and the will of the people. Our nation is run by bankers who fund their puppets into office and if they cant do that they just change the laws (as our mayor did to the public referendum restricting office to two terms) through bribery and coercion.

Without money you are a lost cause and jail time will be served for the smallest of crimes. If you are in the financial sector there is no way to go to jail and you can break laws like “aiding the enemy,” “money laundering,” and so much more we just can’t list it all here.

For a more in depth look at the crimes we suggest reading Matt Taibbi’s story at Rolling Stone.
